Son objectif premier est de mener des recherches fondamentales en astronomie et de promouvoir l&#8217;astronomie aupr\u00e8s des \u00e9tudiants et du grand public en Gr\u00e8ce. Sa longitude est 240 53 &#8217;57&#8217; &#8216;Est et sa Latitude 350 12&#8217; 43 &#8221; Nord. La distance en visibilit\u00e9 directe de Skinakas de la ville d&#8217;H\u00e9raklion est \u00e0 seulement 25 km, un trajet plut\u00f4t sinueux de 50 km en voiture, ce qui prend un peu plus d&#8217;une heure.
